Caden released a quiet laugh at Ginny's question, and then smirked at Leanna's answer. "Eh, that sounds about right," he agreed. "Honestly, though, I don't mind if we don't end up learning much in here. I'm sure it'll beat most of the other classes." Ginny's eyes flicked to the older redheaded girl in vague surprise at the answer to her quip, however she quickly seemed back to ignoring her. Her eyes lingered on her a moment before Caden snared her attention again. "You know... the sad thing is you might actually be right," she mused back at him, doubtful eyes shifting back to the elder Malfoy, taking in his demeanour. He still held the same poise as he always did, and was remarkably unruffled considering, but there was a slight lack of his usual air of purpose that made him seem... strange. She almost felt like gagging however as the Slytherin girls started blatantly fawning over him (seriously... gross. He was their mates dad... then again, she doubted that would bother Parkinson at least...), mildly amazed that the infamous Lucius bloody Malfoy let Pansy away for her cheeky comments. Seems his last while under the boot of Voldemort had curbed some of his haughtiness if he'd let even a child speak to him so frankly in public. Even one he appeared to like. As the blonde gestured for them to sit, Ginny dutifully and without protest moved to fold into a comfortable position, leaning on one hand and legs curled around her side next to Caden as she waited for him to actually start the class, lips twitching very slightly but otherwise giving no reaction as she watched Draco's little snooty moment out of the corner of her eye, insisting on transfiguring himself a chair rather than risking dirtying his robes. It was funny how something that would have once had her huffing and wanting to throw a dirt clod at his head now had her amused. ...Okay she still wanted to throw the dirt clod, but at last now it was goodnaturedly rather than in the hopes that it might brain him.

Lucius arched a subtle brow at his son's antics, refusing to even bring himself to sit on the grass. That boy never could get his hands dirty, could he? Well, if he preferred his rock cushion, whatever.
Once everyone was settled, the Malfoy cleared his throat to grab their attention--more as a routine than a necessity, before beginning. "I'm Professor Malfoy," that certainly sounded weird, "and, as I'm sure you've all gathered by now, I'll be the one teaching this...class of yours."
Care of Magical Creatures...right. What the hell was he supposed to do with this? Well...as long as he at least looked like he knew what he was talking about, he might be able to bullsh!t his way through this absurd endeavor...
"Now," he drawled, his silver stare meeting briefly the gaze of each of the students, "which of you can manage to recall where you left off last term?"

"Professor, aren't we supposed to learn about dangerous creatures this year, considering it's our last one?" Pansy asked. "Like... dragons?" she added innocently. Oh, she would love to see those dragons again and since Draco's father had obviously no idea what to teach in this class, why not?

Dragons. Now, that sounded like a definite recipe for disaster, and that innocent tone of hers certainly wasn't fooling him.
Lucius proceeded to arch a single brow at Parkinson's daughter, as he drawled, "I believe you're supposed to be learning whatever I deem necessary for you to learn. In any case, you failed to answer the question, Pansy."
Still, there was a fair point to be found in her remark. He needed to figure out something to teach these students. Something they could actually take with them. But, was there even anything meaningful to be taken from this ridiculous class? Just as he thought that, however, an idea began formulating in his mind. Perhaps there was something...
"We'll let that question rest for now, however," he stated, his mind shifting and trying to recall what precisely Draco had once conveyed to him. "As I understand it, most of you here have had prior exposure to the creature known as a boggart, during a class of yours with Professor Lupin. Am I correct?"

Catching Leanna's remarked, Draco mouthed a dry'Gee thanks'.
The blond then caught his Fathers expression at his transfiguration and rose an brow back. Excuse him? Wasn't he the one who use to get pissed when his expensive robes got dirt on them- and claim teachers that made Draco sit on the ground like "common street urchins" only did so because it was their usual place in life? Below others.
What, now new- COMC teeaching, earthy Lucius Malfoy objected to Draco acting the way he'd taught him to act in such situations. Next the man was going to demand they go on a muggle hugging expedition and finish it off by eating 'common foods' like crisps and chips before sucking the oil off of their hands and having a ruddy hoe down.
Then again Draco supposed he shouldn't be surprised, since he started Hogwarts there wasn't much he could do right in his Father's eyes. Why should responding to situation exactly has he'd been taught be any different. If he'd just plopped down on the earth like every other idiot here- that would have been wrong too- at least this way he got a cushion out of it.
He ignored his Father's question, yes he *should* be trying to help him- but he wouldn't want you botch it up again, right?
Shaking his head lightly to himself the blond turned his attention to the grass instead.

Theo look over at Pansy, she seemed far to eager to be assisting Malfoy. Shrugging at her antics he spoke. "We covered the basics about boggarts, and how to defend against them, but nothing in depth, Professor."

Alex looked to the older Malfoy curiously. He was planning something, that much was obvious, some gleam of insight was conveyed from his careful demeanor. Where was this boggart topic heading? Were they going to revisit that lesson? When Pansy answered, he smiled a little. She was very eager to provide the man with any answer he sought.

Draco saw what Pansy was doing for what it was, baiting. And his Father wasn't rising to it- he didn't know if that showed a large lack of control or cowardice... he would have stuck her in some fashion long ago, at least he would have before the Dark Lord clipped is claws...

Ginny remained silent as her classmates pitched in, though her expression was dubious. Boggarts were a Defence topic, everyone knew that - dark creatures were for defence, CoMC was for the non-humanoid creatures that feel more into the 'animal' categories. The alteration of the class premis annoyed her, but really it wasn't to surprising given how the rest of the 'Professors' had been teaching, given the new focus in 'Dark Arts' she supposed learning about dark creatures here wasn't the worst idea in the world... But boggarts? What were they thirteen? One Remus had already done an brilliant job in covering them - secondly if they hadn't mastered riddikulus by now they were pretty sorry wizards.
Then again, she supposed drolly, if it meant she got to see Lucius Malfoy laughing in his demonstration it might be worth it. She wasn't sure the blonde man even knew how to laugh...

"Ooh," Millicent stated with a playful smirk as she gazed up at the man, "boggarts, huh? I'm sure this'll be fun." There were more people around this time and she really wanted to witness the fears of those she didn't know.

(Sorry for taking so long to respond here, everybody! Haven't had a chance to get on in a bit.)
"That's what I thought," Lucius nodded in response to the answer Nott supplied.
His silver gaze wandering over the rest of the students, he gauged their reactions. Some looked intrigued, others mildly annoyed. Draco's mind seemed to be somewhere else entirely, judging by the somewhat contemplative look in his eyes. When Millicent spoke up, he arched a brow at her, guessing the direction of her thoughts based on past interactions with the girl--she could be rather nosy. In a way, though, her reaction sort of hit the mark more closely than she realized. No matter, they would all find out soon enough.
"In that case," he continued, "we'll focus on taking a bit of a closer look at those creatures. As I understand it, you learned to defend yourselves from them in Professor Lupin's class. We'll be focusing on the creatures themselves, instead. If any of you need a basic review on them, I suggest you search the library."
Now that he had an idea of which direction to take the class, he internally scolded himself for not planning it beforehand. This really was a waste of a day, seeing as he didn't have the necessary supplies for the lesson--namely, a boggart. He wondered if it would be too early to dismiss the class altogether. They hadn't been here long, true, but it was also the first day, and what was the point in keeping them here for no reason?
"Now then, what time is this class usually over?" he questioned.

"When it's dismissed," the blond boy said dryly speaking for the first time since this whole debacle began. His sliver gaze turned to the ones so much like his own, and a small frown pulled at his features as he waited to see if that meant they were free to go.

Ginny had a sinking feeling as the aristocratic man dismissed them, at odds with her sarcastic earlier thought of how amusing it would be to see him laughing.
All of a sudden the ideas of boggarts seemed all the more sinister. She wasn't a naive child any more... She didn't want to face her worst fear now, especially before an entire class's, and she didn't want to see anyone else's...
Merlin, don't let this lesson involve a real boggart...Please...
Slowly pushing herself to her feet, the redhead concentrated on gathering her things with a frown, the ridiculously short lesson all but forgotten from her mind as she focused on the more pressing matter.
