Alex smiled slightly as the girl's parting words and silently wished the same for her. However, once alone, that smile faded and he looked down to his coffee absently. What a bleak outlook she possessed. And she was entirely wrong. No one could achieve anything without also hoping. He knew firsthand how important a thing it was.

Alex tensed the instant he felt the slap on his back. Glancing to his left, he spotted Caden, his housemate, and then shifted his gaze toward Alecto. How was she going to react to this? Still, he had to admit that he was a little relieved. This momentary distraction might serve to distract her from continuing the line of questioning.
He heard Caden's easy greeting and marveled at how easily the boy faced any situation, no matter the severity. He seemed entirely comfortable.

Upon seeing Ginny's face brighten in reaction to his response, all remaining doubt was erased. However, he also recognized her struggle to entirely trust him, which still festered in her gaze. It wasn't an easy thing for her. Understandably so. And, despite the fact that he completely understood the implications in his own involvement, he considered her answer fully. She was merely taking all possible precautions. And he couldn't blame her.
"I understand," he answered softly, assuring her. "My mind is entirely made up." A small smile formed and he leaned forward only slightly, catching her eyes and conveying his complete sincerity. "You can trust me, Ginny."

As Alex observed the disposition of his former housemate, he also saw a reflection of the person he had been only a short time ago. He had kept to himself, caring for his fellow students but entirely resolved to escape the madness after graduating. Now, however, things had changed. He wasn't that person anymore. In the end, if it came down to it, he would stand beside what was right. No matter what.
"We can always hope," Alex replied. "Nothing is ever entirely certain."

Alex caught the direction of her eyes and observed the guarded look. Everyone had to constantly look over their shoulder lately. It was often frustrating and he hated having to always live in fear.
He shrugged, "it's hard to say. I don't know if it's even possible." He hated to admit defeat but...there just didn't seem to be a way out.

Alex was again struck by the girl's profound and fervent vigor. She was so assured of her path. Up until now, he had always kept to himself, merely observing events as they unfolded and suffering in silence. No one had ever challenged it. He had never challenged himself.
Thinking of his father, he thought of how the man always vehemently expressed his views and opinions. However, the man only ever voiced his objections, wrong as they were, without making any movements. Despite how fortunate a thing that was, the principle was the same. All talk and no action. Ever.
But he wanted to be different. He didn't want to follow the man's example. This girl was offering him an opportunity to actually step out of the shadows he had secured himself within and try to offer his aid where it was needed. And, if the school somehow managed to unite against even such an overpowering force, there was a very slim opportunity for success.
But everyone needed to step up. Himself included. If he backed out, and continued hiding, he might survive but he would also regret it. That wasn't much of a life. Something stirred within him and, looking to Ginny, he inhaled briefly before slowly nodding. His choice was made.
"Yes," he responded firmly. It was true. The second he voiced his reply, a weight was lifted. This was the right thing to do.

"That's true," Alex replied, thinking over the entirety of her response. "The school wouldn't be much of anything without the students. Still, I was comparing to the ideals of the school for any future attendees. We will all leave it someday, but it will continue. It will still have its students, but the core teaching upheld here may never be the same either." He sighed, "and yes, it kind of puts all of us in a bind here. We can't offer aid to anyone without making matters worse."

The girl before was obviously in a great state of distress, Alex observed. He watched as she pulled on her hair in frustration before permitting a look of concern, empathy forming in reaction to the state of her. "A more important concern than the school itself," He began somewhat solemnly, "is whether all of us, the students, will recover. I'm not sure how bad things will get."

"No," Alex agreed, "it seems they don't. It's simply a sad state of mind that most of them have been raised to believe." He also pondered the musings which his fellow Raven had said beneath her breath. As far the the potential fallout, well, it was something he had considered on more than one occasion. It was a disturbing thought. That things might only get worse.

"That makes sense," Alex nodded, considering her words once more. It was an extremely bleak situation. He was admittedly a little impressed that the girl was able to discern the actions of the Dark Lord and his followers so thoroughly. Her view was not jaded by their lies whatsoever.
He sighed and looked to her sincerely, "what can be done about it though?" They were such a threatening and powerful force. It'd be a difficult endeavor for anyone.

"Well," the boy continued, trying to keep his mind as detached as possible. He could be completely honest in regard to his father. "That the ministry and our laws are far too lax when it comes to the distinction of the noble class from those beneath. And also the matter of blood purity, he doesn't appreciate any tainting whatsoever or the presence of Muggleborns. His ideal is a society of the absolute elite."

Alex smiled slightly in reaction to Leanna's little rant. She was obviously temperamental and opinionated. "Well," he responded to her statement on the matter of his beverage choice. "I find that coffee actually helps boost my mental awareness. Perhaps I'm already an addict."
He then sighed as he considered her next set of questions. "Yes, I'm originally from France. Came here to stay with my father. As to the matter of my blood..." he trailed off before shaking his head, "not yet. I'm certain It'll happen soon though." He looked to her, "it is rather unfair, isn't it?"

Alex watched as her eyes perused his attire and surmised that she was trying to verify his status. It was unavoidable, he supposed. There really wasn't a way out of this. Still, he directed his focus to the question at hand instead.
"A wide range of things," he replied. "The very way in which the ministry is run, the leniency of some of our laws, the previous schooling system, distinctions of class, even matters to do with non-human creatures."
His father was very intolerant, on almost every issue. However, the absolute extent of his intolerance was verbal disagreement.

Alex considered the girl's words. If the state of their school was anything to go by, then it was possible that the entire Wizarding World was threatened as well. The Dark Lord was still terrorizing and enforcing his ideals. Still...what exactly was she proposing? Was there actually something that could be done about it?
"Go on," he urged her gently.

Alex wondered if the class might't have been cancelled or something. It didn't appear as if anyone else was going to show. Setting his bag down on the desk, he absently removed a piece of parchment and a quill. He tapped his fingers idly a moment, before beginning to offhandedly sketch a random assortment of objects.

Alex walked into the room as well before glancing around at the empty seats and catching sight of the Slytherin before him. It was the second time he had run across her like this. Nodding in greeting, he moved towards one of the desks and sat, withholding a sigh. He wasn't all too thrilled with the class this term. He didn't know entirely what to expect, but it was sure to take a very different turn from what it was originally intended for.

From within the corner of his eye, Alex saw Ginny walk toward her table. He didn't dare shift his attention to glance over though and forced himself to remain entirely focused on Alecto.
She reached out and brushed a hand across his shoulder and he withheld the urge to openly flinch. He felt entirely backed into a corner, the only thing he could do now was try his absolute best to keep the situation under control. She was taunting him a little in remarking on his level of intelligence. Still, answering her question without paying any mind to potential, displeasing information wasn't entirely wise. Though, prolonging the inevitable didn't seem the smartest thing to do either.
What could he say to appease her? He supposed he could mention his father. Try and steer the conversation in an uninteresting direction.
"My family isn't notably affiliated by any means," he began. "My father has worked for the ministry a few years now and has made the headlines a couple times as well. He's very opinionated and takes the opportunity to provide his thoughts on almost every political matter."

The intensity of Ginny's stare momentarily caught Alex off guard, but he didn't look away. Couldn't look away. The girl possessed such an outstandingly prevailing inner fire that was entirely compelling to him. It was like a beacon, challenging him to consider something greater.
And she had also chosen to trust him in that moment. Her gaze was daring and assured as she seemed to detect something within his. It made him feel just a little vulnerable.
"What did you have in mind?" He asked quietly.

Alex tilted his head at the new direction for their conversation and deliberated briefly before nodding. "Yes, I'm..." his gaze intensified slightly, "very against it."
He considered that smile she just offered him and couldn't deny what a great sort of sadness it was that, whatever she was currently struggling with, prevented her from being entirely at ease. If only momentarily.

Eyes momentarily shifting as Rodolphus walked in, Alex then refocused on the dangerous woman before him. What could he say in response? Was there even a right way to reply?
"There isn't much else to say," he admitted somewhat meekly. "What would you like to know?"

Alex took just a moment to recollect himself before focusing entirely on the girl beside him. She was so...entirely sincere. Perhaps one of the most sincere individuals he had ever come across. Within such a short time, he was entirely assured of the fact that she was someone exceptional.
He offered a warm, grateful smile. "Thank you."

Alex took a moment to collect himself. Capturing her attention was exactly what he didn't want. Blending into the background was always the safest bet. However, now he had to try his best to avoid antagonizing her. Slowly nodding, he met her gaze, purposefully conveying how uncomfortable he was in her presence. Defiance and even collected confidence would only make matters worse.
"I'm a 7th year member of the Ravenclaw house," he responded tentatively. Her question was unnervingly open ended.

Alex walked into the kitchen at a leisurely pace. He sighed before recognizing the other member of his house and offering her a polite smile as he took a seat across from her and asked one of the elves for some coffee. He looked to the girl then with a tilt of his head, "how are you, Leanna?"

Alex shook his head, "the one time I asked him about it, he merely said that he had made a lot of mistakes in his younger years. He then promptly ordered me not to bring it up again."
Lowering his eyes, he thought over the matter. He had considered many different angles as to why someone like his father would've gone so far as to have any form of intimate relation with a muggle. There was really only one explanation that made any remote sense.
"My theory is..." he began, still entirely unsure, "That he must've had some feelings for her, at a time, but that he wanted that fact to remain hidden. Against his 'better judgement' he formed some sort of relationship with her. But then, because of me, he was given a wake up call or something and left her. I can imagine he despised himself for it, making his animosity towards muggles that much stronger."
Glancing back to Ginny, he tilted his head in thought ."But...when my mother sought him out, pleading with him to take me, I imagine that he couldn't refuse her. I like to think that some part of him feels just a little bit of guilt for what he did to her."

"No," Alex shook his head. "She was entirely unaware of magic, in fact, until I started showing signs of it. Between my father and mother...I was simply a...happy accident."
He sighed, "and my abilities frightened her a little at first. She didn't know what was wrong with me. That's when she sought my father out. He didn't bother trying to hide himself from the public eye and so it wasn't difficult at all." He shook his head, "I think she was also hoping that he and I would...reconnect or something."

(Lol. Thank you ;p)
"Well," Alex responded, a small smile crossing his face in response to memories of his mother and of his homeland. "I don't really consider my father as family much. Though I've been with him for the past seven years, it's always been very tense." Returning his gaze to Ginny, he continued, "he's...a pureblood and set in his own mind when it comes to lineage. I don't think he can stand the sight of me, yet doesn't seem able to discard me. Worried about his public image and all that."
His smile returned, "I'd love more than anything to return home to my mother. All of my better memories were spent there."

Alex was slightly taken aback by her sudden display of conviction and, having caught the fleeting look in her eyes, surmised that it suited her every bit as well as the earlier smile she had offered. Still, he noted that he had been right in his prior musing. Her loyalty was commendably strong.
"Me?" He paused to consider his words. She had been open with him and so he reasoned no harm would come from doing the same. "It's been...rough. I can't wait to graduate and leave this place behind, though I'm starting to wonder if anything will go back to normal, even then."
