Alex watched as she bit her lip and creased his brows in concern. He turned his head and grabbed a soda before looking back at her, "would you like one?"

"Sure," Alex replied before standing, "I can get it though." He motioned towards the couch, "you should rest." He wondered how badly she had been hurt during that detention of hers.

"It's possible," Alex nodded before tilting his head with a small sigh. "I still...can't really believe how this all happened." He looked To Ginny, "despite everything that's going on, I guess it just hasn't really all sank in. Dumbledore is gone, professor Snape betrayed him, the ministry has been infiltrated....everything changed so suddenly."

Alex nodded before looking to his wand as he lowered his hand, feeling the cold sort of withdrawal left in the absence of her touch. He deliberated a moment before slowly turning to face her fully, "mind if I ask you something about that?" Probably not, so he simply decided to continue with the question. "Is it always like that? I mean...do you feel that way each time you cast those curses? I imagine there's a different sort of feeling associated with each one of them."
He recalled Caden's description of how it had felt to cast the Cruciatus Curse. It didn't seem nearly as pleasant as the one he had just used.

Alex nodded. It was true, house elves were notoriously mistreated by their owners. It was a sad fact for sure. He then smiled as he recalled Hermione Granger's little campaign on their behalf. She was definitely a very passionate sort of person. He had also heard the tale of Dobby's freedom and considered that the elf was still trying to adjust to the change. "Well, I suppose he can hardly be blamed. Change is difficult for anyone."

"Hey," Alex quirked a smile at the girl, fondly noting the way in which she always chose to address him. Before he could answer her question though, his attention was directed towards the boisterous elf, trying to keep up with everything he was saying. A few items he offered were things he had never even heard of before, though a few he was admittedly curious over. However, after Dobby had settled down somewhat, he simply asked for some coffee. He then shifted his glance towards Ginny, "you seem to be rather popular around here."

Alex nodded. That was true. It was the reluctance on his part, the consideration for any victims of the darker curses. However, he acknowledged that he didn't necessarily want to lose that. With this thought though, he also found he didn't hold it against her for doing so. He had felt the draw of it, the desire not to reemerge from its effects.
He had gained a new insight. She had shared with him a portion of her perspective. In fact, that was even more fulfilling than the actual effects of the curse. He understood her just a bit more. He speculated over how easy it would be to lose yourself within the darker forms of magic, overlooking your victim entirely and completely reveling in it. How many times had she done this?
He pondered that, through falling within its hold, it also had the potential to offer a form of solace, providing a burial of any tragedy or discontent in life. Had something like that happened to her? He really considered Alecto then. Not as someone to be feared or even as an embodied outlet for his fascinated curiosity. He saw her as a person. Simply and remarkably. A person who enjoyed the feelings she derived from these curses and who was so entirely driven by her ideals. It was actually quite a feat, to rise above the mere sensation of dark magic and instead direct it to further ones goals.
Alex turned his head to gaze into her eyes fully, seeing no trace of previously assumed insanity there. Her presence intoxicated him, but it had suddenly become more subtle, less possessing. He really wanted to get to know this person. He offered her a small, completely genuine smile. "Thank you for that."
After all, she hadn't needed to show him this at all. She hadn't needed to share a portion of her feelings with him like that. He really appreciated that she had decided to.

Alex nodded, understanding what she was saying. He reveled in the effect of the spell another moment, somewhat reluctant for it to end before he began to also consider what the opposite side of this cast was. That consideration brought with it a brief window of clarity. He willed himself to lift the curse slowly before feeling the ebbing of that euphoria from within. He had never expected magic could feel so powerful. He simply stood there, reflecting over that sensation before casting a sidelong glance at the woman. "I see what you mean," he managed, still taken with her proximity. She enjoyed the feeling. Who wouldn't? It had been remarkable.

In the back of Alex's mind, he felt a subtle warning, a hesitation and petition to resist what she was demonstrating. However, that curiosity was so much stronger. His thoughts were somewhat clouded, the gentle pull of her voice calling and compelling him. It all but entirely consumed his focus. She moved his hand in demonstration before whispering the proper incantation. It was some sort of nightmare spell, he could determine that much. He looked to the creature before him, smiling a little in response to her playful taunt.
He inhaled deeply before whispering the same words, moving his hand as instructed, noting the assurance of her own hand over his. The effect was unhurried as it slowly began to seep through him. An unexpected, uplifting feeling settled over his mind, calming and soothing him. He had never felt anything like it. It was soft and sweet, lulling him into a state of unprecedented euphoria.
"Wow," Alex responded only in an amazed whisper.

Alex felt a slight shiver in reaction to both her voice in his ear and the feel of her hand over his. It was a different sort of chill than the one he had experienced in fear. This was one was accompanied with a strange sort of warmth. He was lost in that sensation a moment before managing a nod. "Yes," he breathed. She was so...close. He couldn't move, transfixed by her proximity.

Alex blinked, stunned for a moment by that look she cast him, as well as her response. Almost everything she said was in an implicit tone, rarely confirming anything. It was...speculative, which only frustratingly added to the aspects he found most fascinating about her.
"And what is that feeling like?"

"No," Alex replied before closing his current book and returning it to the shelf. "I suppose you wouldn't." He paused, scanning a few more titles, before selecting another and sifting through it. It looked a little more promising. He carried it with him before lowering himself to the floor, reclining against the seat behind him and reopening the book to read it further. He was actively aware of the woman as she flipped through the pages of her magazine. "So, you researched all of this after leaving Hogwarts?"

Perhaps he was out of his mind. He froze the instant she approached and held her wand to his neck, entirely immobilized by her unfeeling stare. When she tore off the limb of that 'spider', he desperately held back his remorse over the situation. Caden was so much better at this. He, himself, was best left silently supporting the efforts of his more successful classmates. He had only made things worse. He had not been entirely accurate in his undeveloped assessment of her character.
She wasn't just here for the thrill of the torture. She was here to set an example and nothing could sway her from that goal. He of course hadn't meant that she shoot any of his classmates, though he figured clarification was unnecessary at this point.
"Of course, professor," he responded simply and reluctantly, burying his remorse and resentment. "I did not intend to offend you." Not at all. Her anger was so entirely frightening. He thought her presence couldn't be any more difficult to withstand than it already was. He was wrong.

And that was the problem. Watching her torture him like this. However, would it really be better to risk his life over simply letting her have her way with him? Was she really not planning on finishing him off afterwards? Alex's eyes lowered, resolve wavering. He became conflicted over it. What now? She had made her demand, but now he wasn't so sure he wanted to meet it. Angering her further was having a negative result on the Muggle behind her. But he also couldn't just ignore what she was asking him to do...he should've just stayed quiet. He glanced briefly to Caden and reminded himself just why he had spoken up in the first place.
"In the standard game," Alex explained softly as he again looked to her. "A handgun is used. It typically has a barrel with six rounds, all of which are left blank save one. Two opponents face one another and take turns lifing the gun to their own head, pulling the trigger and then passing it over for the next person to do the same. This continues until one of them...falls dead. The only way this game would effect everyone is through the outcome. If you lose, your punishment would potentially be directed to any of us." So...the question was whether she had actually been planning on killing the boy. It was so incredibly sickening that she was merely toying with him. However, her implication for the end result was a little surprising.
"But perhaps this isn't the best idea," he replied then.

Alex quirked a brow and looked to the bookshelf. He hadn't really expected to immediately start on this. Where to look first? This reminded him of many hours spent researching for various classes. They weren't really assigned to do much of that anymore but, he supposed the nostalgia of it was nice. There was a certain sort of enjoyment he derived from the simple act of studying.
He glanced to Alecto a final time before standing and walking over to the shelf, scanning the titles and trying to find something that related to what he was looking for. He also wondered how much he'd actually learn from a book anyway. At least it was a start, if nothing else. Selecting one, he somewhat absently opened it to conduct a brief examination of its contents.
"By the way," he asked without turning. "Did you ever get a chance to read that novel I told you of?"

And Alex supposed that was the most he could ask of her. That grin of hers definitely relayed her interest. He again had to consider what he'd just invited her to do. Those 'tests' had the potential to not be very pleasant experiences. Still, it really was one of the only ways to learn. Through practice. "Well, that's very kind of you," he responded, a very slight tone of sarcasm evident before it took a more sincere turn, "I appreciate the help."

"Hm, I see..." Alex replied, trailing off as he continued to observe her. "Ineffective." Which wasn't necessarily something he wanted to be either. His thoughts strayed to the positioning of her person, lazily lounged upon that chair, head back and relaxed. It was sort of opposite to what he was used to seeing. She had usually always been so active and invigorated. Now she just looked more...subdued. More approachable in a way.
"Well, the decision is yours, of course," he responded finally, somewhat composing himself. "I might simply try and research it myself, though I'm sure you could provide a much deeper understanding."

There was no denying that she often found it interesting, much less amusing, to have the opportunity to inflict her skill over other people. Alex shifted and turned to sit in the chair beside hers, "that's true." He looked to her, "but it might make it more interesting." His smirk widened a little, "I'm only speculating though. I guess the real question is whether or not you actually do prefer me to be defenseless."
