"While that's true, there's nothing necessarily wrong with striving to be the best version of yourself, just for you," Lucius informed the girl simply. "However, considering you wouldn't be giving it your full investment, seeing as how you don't actually want to change your habits, the probability of your success is greatly hindered."

"Perhaps, but not quite as impolite as engaging in a bit of eavesdropping, or gossip," Lucius pointed out. "You might want to work on that, Millicent."

"Yes, Draco," the elder Malfoy responded simply, gesturing to the opposite chair. "Sit down."

The door opened and Lucius Malfoy entered, closing it gently behind him as his gaze swept over the vicinity. He stood still, deliberating, the frown breaking its way through his features, and he released a single, heavy sigh. Replacing it in the same instant with his usual unreadable facade, however, he walked forward and took a seat in an armchair situated beside the roaring fireplace, fixing his silver stare patiently on the door.

Lucius caught the young Weasley's expression from his peripheral, not missing for an instant the questioning in her eyes laced beneath the immediate horror. He easily ignored it, however, his countenance unchanged as he replied to Millicent with a slight smirk, "Oh, undoubtedly so. A young lady your age, and of your disposition? Engage in gossip? I would be shocked."

"No, indeed," Lucius drawled, sauntering slowly into the room and shutting the door gently behind him as he did so, his silver stare fixed lazily on the man he addressed. "Perhaps one of the most reasonable statements you've ever uttered, Rodolphus."
It was like an asylum, with these three in the room together. All that was missing was Rodolphus' darling wife, and the quartet's maniacal master, who had lost whatever sanity he once held somewhere between life and death.

Damn it all...
Lucius carried himself in his usual saunter, allowing the scowl on his practiced expression as he made his way across the grounds. Out of all the classes he could have possibly been sent to manage, this was easily the most demeaning. It was bad enough the Dark Lord had been making backhanded threats against his family and sending Draco on that suicide mission, but now, at every turn, every chance he got, he felt the unfailing need to completely humiliate the man as he did it. That madman... Taking over his Manor, laying claim to it as though anything he wanted was his for the taking. That damn half-blood...
He really was something of a vindictive little piece of sh!t.
As he neared that miserable oaf's hut, he forced an expressionless demeanor, and his silver eyes fell upon the two girls, who were actually relatively early. Placing the first in an instant, from that distinctive red hair, her early arrival was nothing if not expected. After all, she had been a favorite of that worthless Gamekeeper's--well, her brother, anyway. And the second, he recognized as the Bulstrodes' daughter, a friend of his son's. Her earliness was not quite as expected.
He came to an easy stop beside the two, his silver eyes drifting to each as he addressed them, drawling, "Miss Weasley." Offering the other a slight inclination of his head, "Miss Millicent. So eager for today's lesson, are you?"

(( Yeah, sounds good to me *nods* ))
Well, he had answered the most basic question he had needed to know. Draco seemed to be alright. That was enough, for now.
"In any case," Lucius continued, "you'll have to excuse me. And I realize I've probably put a hold on your discussion," he gestured between Draco and Theodore. "Why don't you finish telling him about your summer?" He gave a slight inclination of his head, before turning and taking his leave of the pair, exiting the library altogether.

"Oh, no need, it's my pleasure," Lucius assured him dryly. "I'm glad to hear everything seems to be in order." He did not miss that amusement which sparked in Draco's eyes. As if it wasn't bad enough... No matter, there was no point in dwelling, it was all just a means to an end.

"Is it your ears that aren't working, or is it the portion of your brain that's supposed to encode the sound into a tangible piece of information?" Lucius drawled, in no mood to repeat himself. To repeat that. "Either way, you'll probably want to have that looked at, son."

"Only one? How strange, Draco," Lucius mused, a slightly sarcastic smirk forming at the corner of his mouth. "Your schedule really has taken quite a few revisions since last I checked. It must be quite an important class, then, requiring your undivided attention."

"I'll be teaching...a class while I'm here," Lucius drawled. As if that absurd excuse for a class could even be called such a thing. It was utterly...humiliating. Contemptible. But, of course, there was a bright side to this whole frustrating scenario, as he had just established, and therefore, there was no point in complaining about it.

"No, I'll be staying a bit longer," Lucius replied. "I'll actually be joining the staff here at this fine establishment," he drawled the last bit in a vaguely sarcastic tone.
Though he was resistant and rather bitter about the very idea of it all, he was thankful for one thing. It would be much easier for him to keep a watchful eye on his son this way. Having him close would be safer than leaving him to the mercy of the seemingly endless madness of Voldemort's simply wonderful assortment of Death Eaters.

Lucius noted the change in Draco's expression, and at the sight of it, he had to resist the urge to scowl. Instead, he simply said, "Of course. I'm glad to hear it, it's only right you should."
He would need to find out exactly what had been going on around here. Draco didn't seem too eager to reveal anything to him, but given the proper time and context, it might be easier. And, of course, just taking it upon himself to keep an eye on those Carrow lunatics wouldn't hurt, either.

"Fine, thank you," Lucius answered.
Fine. It had to be one of the easiest and vaguest responses a person could give. And it was so rarely the truth of the matter. When a person said they were fine, so often, the complete reverse was true. It was enough to instill a new wave of concern over the state his son might be in, but, of course, nothing ever broke its way through his exterior that he did not allow.
"And how are you enjoying the new change of pace?" he asked dryly, almost bitterly, his thoughts shifting to the Carrow twins and the potential mayhem that pair could inflict if left unchecked. There really was no limit to the crazies. Their dear Madame Lestrange was a shining example of that.

Lucius did not miss the strain in Draco's expression. Or the subtle way his voice seemed to trail off. He could see the questions staring up at him through those silver eyes, but he made no indication he noticed any of it. "Hello," he replied easily.
There were so many questions he himself wanted to ask the boy, so many things he needed to know, and far too many things he needed to say, but he held it in check, not allowing a single slip in his practiced facade. Instead, he restricted it to one simple inquiry, with more underlying meaning than he could ever express.
"How are you?"

After pushing the doors to the library open and allowing them to shut behind him as he stepped into the large, open area, Lucius Malfoy's silver eyes perused the expanse in one, single sweep. He resisted the eye roll as his gaze fell upon his deranged sister-in-law's husband. Or, rather, what could vaguely pass for a husband in their twisted world. He stepped forward and continued his perusal, sauntering past the many rows of shelves, until, finally, out of the corner of his eye, he caught sight of what he had been searching for.
Turning his full attention to the platinum head of hair, he silently watched his son, sitting in the back corner. Through his inspection, he made a mental note that Draco looked...alright. He was alright. He was talking with a friend of his, it didn't seem too grave a topic, from what he observed. Of course, that was only what he could see, only the exterior. Only time would tell what psychological ramifications all of this would have on the boy.
After deliberating another moment, Lucius walked forward, coming to a stop beside his son and fixing his silver stare on him. "Draco," he greeted simply. Allowing his gaze to shift a moment, he offered a slight nod to the boy in his company, fixing a name to the face in a split-second. "Theodore."
